Bedfordshire County Golf

South East Group 6-man event

In 2025 it was the turn of Bedfordshire Golf to host the South East Group 6-man event which took place on Sat 12 July at The Millbrook, with the course beautifully presented by the host club for the 36-hole stroke play qualifier event.

A total of 66 men, selected from 11 counties across the SE of England, were competing to determine who would represent the SEG in the England Golf Final, with the best 5 from 6 scores per team from each of the morning and afternoon rounds to decide the winning county, plus an individual prize for the individual winner over 36 holes. On one of the hottest days of the year Bedfordshire started well and last year’s individual winner Ryan Craig (Dunstable Downs) laid down a clear marker of his intent to retain his title (a feat never previously achieved), as he posted the best score of the morning with a superb 5 under par 67 to lead the field by two shots.  Adam Northfield (John O’Gaunt) finished level par for the morning and the other qualifying rounds came from Rob Sutton (Dunstable Downs, +1), Arnav Arkanath (Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands, +5) and Dillon Basi (The Bedfordshire, +6) which saw Bedfordshire in 4th place at lunch.

The afternoon round was challenging for all players given the relentless hot weather, but excellent rounds of 2 under par were returned by both Rob and Arnav along with a +2 from Ryan, +5 from Dillon and +7 from both Adam and Scott Armitage (John O’Gaunt), which saw the Bedfordshire team finishing a very creditable 5th overall for their best finish in this event for a number of years, just 6 shots off 4th place and beating counties like Hampshire, Essex and Sussex.

In the individual event Ryan Craig finished with a 3 under par total which unfortunately saw him in a three-way tie for first place, agonisingly losing out on countback to finish 3rd, with Rob Sutton also finishing a creditable 7th individually.  The Kent team secured both the team and individual titles.

Congratulations to all the Bedfordshire team and thanks to all the staff from Millbrook and the County representatives who supported them during the day. Special thank to Gary Boyle who managed the team on the day for all his hard work and commitment.
