The 2025 Mens County Champs was hosted by Leighton Buzzard over the weekend of 7/8 June. The course was presented in excellent condition and was a good test of the best of the County over 54 holes of golf. Following the first round Jon Marlow (John O’Gaunt) led the field with a one under 70, with Rob Sutton just one shot back and three players, Kyle Faulkner (Aspley Guise & WS), Arnav Arkanath (Aspley Guise & WS) and Paul Kenna (Dunstable Downs), a further two shots back on 73. The afternoon round saw some fantastic golf as players looked to make the second day cut (top 24 and ties) with Arnav Arkanath, Adam Northfield (John O’Gaunt) and Ed Tubridy (Cainhoe Wood) all shooting superb rounds of 67 to move up the leaderboard, and Ryan Craig (Dunstable Downs), Fraser Jamieson (Leighton Buzzard) and George Garnham (Beds & County) also returning under par rounds of 70. After 36 holes of golf Arnav Arkanath was leading on -2, with Adam Northfield in second at -1 and Jon Marlow on level par. The final 18 holes saw Ed Tubridy, playing in the penultimate group alongside Scott Armitage (John O’Gaunt) and Paul Kenna (Dunstable Downs), continue his excellent form from the second round and with three holes to play he was 3 under for his final round but a punishing double bogey on the 16th, and another shot dropped on 17, saw him sign for a level par 71 to finish 1 over for the championship, and with it the club house lead. With only three players left on the course, only Arnav Arkanath remained in contention teeing up on 18th and he kept his focus with a birdie on the final hole to secure the County championship by a single shot with a final round 73 to finish level overall. Ryan Craig posted a successive 70 for the only final round under par to finish in third place on +4.
The County would like to thank Leighton Buzzard GC and all their staff and members, especially those who helped during the weekend, to make this a very successful event.
