Bedfordshire County Golf hits the mark with national golf accreditation for safeguarding

Bedfordshire County, representing both the Ladies & Men's teams, has achieved the SafeGolf accreditation from England Golf demonstrating its commitment to safeguarding children and young people, as well as adults at risk in the sport of golf.

Bedfordshire County's purpose is to further the interests of amateur golf in Bedfordshire and to provide guidance and assistance to all Affiliated Clubs.

Key Activities are:

To provide governance advice to all Affiliated Clubs as derived from England Golf and, as relevant, the R&A

To facilitate competitions for Individuals and Club teams, for all age groups and abilities

To develop Junior golfers

To undertake Course Rating in Bedfordshire

To run County Representative Teams

To develop golfing talent within the County

To represent Bedfordshire golf and golf clubs at a national level

To act as the area authority for administering the CONGU handicapping system

The award was presented to Kim Burnage & David Hawkins by England Golf's Club Partnership Officer, Matt Draper.  “I'm delighted that Bedfordshire has achieved SafeGolf and that its efforts to grow the game and safeguard it's participants can be nationally recognised.”

SafeGolf is a partnership of UK golf bodies committed to promoting a safe and positive environment for all those participating, working and volunteering in the sport of golf.

The SafeGolf partnership consists of members from the golfing bodies across Great Britain & Ireland and has been established to help golf respond to the issue of child protection in sport. Its mission is to safeguard the welfare of children and young people, as well as adults at risk, in the sport of golf.

SafeGolf is firstly, a website - www.safegolf.org - through which anyone with a concern about the welfare of a player, or the behaviour or practice of a coach, volunteer, organiser, parent or a player, can contact the lead safeguarding officer at their national governing body.

Secondly, it is the safeguarding standard England Golf will promote to all their affiliated clubs and counties to ensure everyone provides a safe and positive experience to children and young people whilst playing golf. The PGA is also using the standards to apply to all their PGA professional Coaches.
