County Finals Day at Luton Hoo

The County Finals day was held at Luton Hoo, on Sunday 15th October The. Semi-finals and Final of the County Matchplay, Mid Handicap Final, Team Handicap Final and the Womens Senior Knockout Final.

In the Semi Finals Chris Spooner, Dunstable, beat Ed Stephenson, Leighton Buzzard and Rob Sutton, Dunstable, beat Scott Armitage, John O Gaunt.

The Final was played in the afternoon, it was all square after the front nine holes but Chris Spooner birdied the 11th received a concession on the 12th and birdied 14 to go three up with four to play, however, after a half on the par three 15th Rob Sutton won the next three holes to go to sudden death play-off; the first hole was halved so the match went down the 9th and following a wayward drive from Rob, Chris Spooner seized the opportunity to win the trophy his great friend Rob had won in 2022. In the Womens Senior Knockout Final, Anne Beckett, Pavenham beat Chris Kermath, Mount Pleasant. Pictured Left

The Team Knockout Handicap, played for the Paul Hawkins Trophy, was won by Leighton Buzzard, where Paul was a member.

Contested by Mount Pleasant GC & Leighton Buzzard GC.

A fantastic game that ended as a half after the 5 matches. Resulting in a sudden death play off between the last pair of Craig Pearce (MP) & Jon Dunning (LB). Jon winning for Leighton Buzzard on the second extra hole.

The Mid Handicap League Final was contested by John O'Gaunt GC and Leighton Buzzard GC, the final result an emphatic 4 to 1 win for Leighton Buzzard
