Food & Beverage Workshop- 24/01/2017 John O'Gaunt Golf Club

England Golf are holding a Food & Beverage workshop hosted at John O’Gaunt G.C on Tuesday 24/01/2017. The workshop will be presented by Steven Brown who possess over 40 years’ experience in the leisure and hospitality industry and who has advised golf clubs on their F&B operations.

The workshop looks at the following areas:

•             Pricing Meals

•             Bar Gross Profit (What it should be )

•             Franchise or employing catering staff?

•             Cost of staff and impact of living wage

•             Stock taking

•             Bar Presentation

The workshop lasts from 09:30-16:00 and costs £99 for 2 people to attend-including lunch and light refreshments.

Box of Tricks Workshop - 25/01/2017 Mount Pleasant Golf Club

The Box of Tricks is a Golf Foundation initiative that focuses on junior retention. It is comprised of four aspects; Play, Skill, Social and Marketing. It is a compilation of ideas taken from around the country to support professionals, junior organisers and golf club personal, who work with their junior section to retain and attract junior golfers. Adie Engleman, Professional at Colmworth G.C who was part of the trial process earlier this year described the impact of the box of tricks on her coaching “The ‘Box of Tricks’ has been a most welcomed resource and incredibly useful tool in supporting the progression of our brand new Junior Academy at Colmworth Golf Club during this past year, and especially with so many good ideas contained within the box to choose from! As a coach, I’ve found the ‘Skill’ category to be particularly helpful when coaching our less experienced juniors”

The workshop will be held at Mount Pleasant Golf Club and run for 3 hours. It will be led by Jason and supported Charlie Barwis, CDO for Bedfordshire. It will cost each club £50 to attend the workshop and this will include the ‘Box of Tricks’ for you to take back to your golf club and use. Light refreshments will also be included. Ideally, Club Professional, Club Manager and Junior Organiser should attend, as well as any individual who are involved in your junior section.

Marketing & Social Media Workshop- 23/02/2017

Gog Magog Golf Club in Cambrideshire will be hosting a 1 day workshop focussed on golf club marketing and utilising social media. Jane Carter will take you through the basics of understanding how critical sales and marketing is to the growth of your golf club; where you are now; and how to develop a sales and marketing strategy and ensure it happens.

By the end of this session you will:
 Understand how to bring your members on board
 Identify the best marketing ideas and tactics for your golf club
 Have the right tools, including digital and social media, to build your own ‘media channel’
 Understand how to implement marketing and the resources needed to make it happen
 Understand how to set a budget and to invest in sales and marketing
 Develop 3 key campaigns for any golf club’s marketing calendar
 Know how to build the power of one factor into your golf club marketing

Prior to attending, each club will be asked to complete a document identifying their key objectives around sales and marketing; and to look at their current activity and how it is being implemented.

PGA Level One Coaching Course 

Essendon Country Club will be hosting a PGA Level One coaching course on the 13th & 14th of January 2017. 

The Whole Sport Plan for golf and the 2013 England Coaching Audit has highlighted the shortage of, and need for, Volunteer coaches who are under 25 years old and/or are female. As such, priority will be given to individuals in these categories in the period 2013-2017 to access coaching courses. Volunteer who fits into these categories may be able to access funding to part fund the cost of the Level 1 course. 

A Level 1 qualification is a ‘coach assistant’ role and enables individuals to work alongside and under the direct supervision of a fully qualified PGA Professional at all times.
Volunteer coaches are not permitted to take payment for coaching and any breach of this will result in the coaching license being withdrawn.

If you are interested in becoming a Level 1 Volunteer coach, please download and complete all sections of the Expression of Interest form. The completed form will then need to be returned to coaching@pga.org.uk. To apply for this course, please ensure all expression of interest forms are submitted by 12/12/2016.

Please note - Volunteer qualifications are not a short cut to becoming a PGA Professional. The Volunteer and Professional pathways are completely separate; at no point along the Volunteer pathway is there a transition point leading to becoming a PGA Member or PGA coach.
